The Analysis of “smooch unlimited frozen yogurt”

I choose one of the advertisements that are showed in the gogirl! magazine to be analyzed. I am interested in analyzing this advertisement as it can attract my attention. It is about yogurt named “smooch unlimited frozen yogurt”. This advertisement really knows how to attract the audience by providing cute pictures and good persuasive language styles. I am encouraged to analyze the advertisement from its audiences, technical effects, and language styles.
To know who the audiences of this advertisement are, I analyze the product first. In my opinion, the purpose of this advertisement is to inform people; there are places offer delicious yogurt. According to this advertisement, “smooch unlimited frozen yogurt” offers 8 frozen yogurt flavors with 60 toppings. Besides, people create the toppings by themselves. It is sold at Grand Indonesia, Central Park, and Pondok Indah Mall. Even though this advertisement is founded in woman magazine, I can consider that the target audiences are general people. It is because the product which is provided is yogurt. As I know, yogurt may be consumed by everyone.
To analyze the technical effects of this advertisement, I take a look at the picture and the color. The picture in this advertisement represents the product. For instance, it uses the pictures 11 cups yogurt with eye-catching toppings at the top. Moreover, there are cute icons with different expressions and motions. Every icon seems to be cute. For the color, “smooch unlimited frozen yogurt” uses light color so that the audiences can easily read. These technical effects bring cheer for everyone who is seeing the advertisement. Also, in my opinion, it makes the audience want to buy and taste the yogurt.
“smooch unlimited frozen yogurt”  advertisement uses some language styles. First, it has a slogan “Your creation is Unlimited”. It shows that the advertisement uses a short, simple and hyperbole sentence.  The slogan represents the name of yogurt. Both slogan and advertisement’s name use “unlimited” word. Besides, it uses imperative language. It is proved by a sentence that is found, such as “Come visit us, be creative!”. The word “come” and “be creative” indicates that it is imperatives. On the other hand, there is another slogan “INDULGING EVERYONE WITH A HEALTHY TREAT”. This slogan uses hyperbola, simple, and adjective words. It also seems to be a big lie.   Nevertheless, it successfully draws my attention.
To sum up, I think, the creator succeed to promote their product by advertising it in gogirl! magazine. Overall, this “smooch unlimited frozen yogurt” is very attractive and easy to be read. Consequently, I catch the meaning of this advertisement easily.

Analysis of Glee Serial Episode One

Recently, Glee may become one of favorite TV serials to be watched, especially in Indonesia. Glee is a television serial which is directed by Ryan Murphy. Ryan Murphy is one of the popular directors in Hollywood. Hence, in my opinion, his film is good. Then, it is not doubted. Actually, Glee seems like sinetron in Indonesia. However, Glee is a television drama musical serial, so that the genre of this serial is musical.  Glee offers 22 episodes in one season, and every season has theme which represents the story and songs. Nevertheless, I would like to analyze Glee in the episode one based on its stars and characters, settings and sounds, and plot.
In the episode one, it shows the stars that play in Glee indirectly. It means that the stars are explained by the way they act. The stars are divided into two kinds; teachers and students. First, Will Schuester (Matthew Marrison) is a McKinley High’s Spanish teacher. He is a kind, tidy, and helpful person who has a wife named Terri Schuester (Jessalyn Gilsig). He also becomes a teacher in glee club. Moreover, there are Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and Emma Pillsburry
(Jayma Mays). Sylvester is a head coach of “Cheerios” cheerleader who tells Schuester that the glee club will be cut if it does not place in regional.  While, Emma Pillsburry is a counselor teacher who loves cleanliness and has special feeling for Will Schuester. It is proved by her acting that she always uses plastic to hold her meals. Besides, she keeps her feeling for Schuester. It can be seen from her eyes. Jayma Mays succeeds to describe her acting.
For students, there are several actors and actresses. The main actress is Rachel Berry which played by Lea Michele. She is an ambitious person; has a beautiful voice. She sings beautifully like birds do.  She has special feeling for Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith), a star quarterback of the school’s football. Nonetheless, he has had a girlfriend named Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron), a head of “Cheerios” cheerleader. Kurt Hummel which started by Chris Colfer is a soprano singer in glee club. I know that from his voice which is in high range. Moreover, from her outfit, he looks like a “gay”, and he is fashionable. Others students are Tina Cohen-Chang (Jenna Ushkowitz), is an Asian and Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley). Last, Artie Abrams (Kevitn McHale) is a paralyzed and geek person, but he is a guitarist in glee club. All these stars have unique characteristics, so it can be the positive value for this serial.
This part explains about the setting and sound. Many scenes of Glee episode one is done in parts of school, such as field, auditorium, class room, and head office.  Some scenes are done in a house, such as Rachel, Schuester, and Finn’s house. Moreover, I think, it has realistic setting and lighting. It has good quality lighting. Sometimes, in some scenes or in screen there are back sounds. The back sounds or music is not familiar. I guess that those are original music made only for this serial. In addition, despite the fact that this serial is drama musical, there are some songs which are sung by students. They are familiar songs, such as “On My Own’, “I Kissed a Girl”, “You are the One that I want”, “Don’t Stop Believing”, and so on. Those songs make viewers enjoy watching it.
Talking about its plot, Glee episode one has suspense techniques of plot. At the inciting part, Will Schuester takes over the Ryerson’s (Stephen Tobolowsky) job as a music teacher in glee club. Then, he opens recruitments for those students who want to be a part this group. At first, there are only five students which want to joining with glee club; meanwhile, making a group should have six members. Then, Will finds Finn, and he persuades Finn to join glee club by a ancaman. On the other hand, a head master says to Will that glee club is not allowed using auditorium anymore until Nasionals; if they do well in Nasional, they may keep the auditorium. This becomes the development part of plot.
The climax comes from Will who decides to leave glee club because of his family. Terri Schuester tells him that she is pregnant. Will thinks that he should look for other job in providing his family. After that, he fills out job application for an accounting firm. When Emma tries to ask him in order to go back to his job, Rachel and her friends always practice without Will in preparing Nationals. Finally, Emma fails in persuading Will. As Will leaves the school, he hears the students sing “Don’t stop believing” which was released by Journey in the auditorium. At that time, he makes new decision which he will stay and help student in order to go to Nationals. It is gives commotion feeling enough.
To sum up, Glee episode one in season one is a good beginning of serial. Murphy as director succeeds to make people, especially me addicted to his serial. Not only he directs it well, but also the songs which are provided are easy listening. He describes all stars and setting clearly. Besides, it is an interesting serial. However, some languages are difficult to understand and viewers should open the dictionary. Last, it can inspire people in order they still keep struggle in everything. Consequently, this serial is suitable to be watched.

Album Review: Avenged Sevenfold "Nightmare"

The major labels may continue to wither, but they won't go out without a bang. After all, there's no other way to explain the recent promotional tie-in between the new Avenged Sevenfold track "Welcome to the Family," and its ideological brethren, the ultra-violent video game, "Call of Duty: Black Ops."

Set to a string of explosions, helicopters and assault rifles clutched by solemn young men with shaved heads, the unabashed militarism is frightening and almost pornographic in its zeal. Whether you appreciate the veteran hard rock/metal hybrid depends on your tolerance for spiraling guitars, avalanche drums and satanic screams. Or your inclination to the aesthetic spelled out in the video for lead single "Nightmare," with its bloody and cackling children, experimental surgeries and morbid obsessions. Consider it Edward Gorey as re-conceptualized by Hannibal Lecter and Korn.
Metal doesn't die, it mutates, and sonically, Avenged Sevenfold has cribbed from the usual suspects: Linkin Park and the Nu-Metal school, a little Black Sabbath, and the Orange County punk-thrash that inevitably influenced its formative years. The sincerity is palpable even if the style seems synthetic, particularly on "So Far Away," which presumably addresses the untimely death last year of their drummer, James "The Rev" Sullivan.
With imagery haunted by death and lyrical allusions to alienation and angst, Avenged Sevenfold's fifth full-length is almost impossible to appreciate unless you fit the prime demographic: tormented teenage boys.

Green Tips for Daily Living

March 26, 2009
Here are some simple “green tips” for every day living. When done regularly, they just become a way of life. Drop us an email at feedback@greenkampong.com with tips of your own.
1. Skip the bottled water
  • Use a water filter to purify tap water instead of buying bottled water. Not only is bottled water expensive, but it generates large amounts of plastic container waste.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle, preferably aluminium rather than plastic, with you when travelling or at work. This also applies to buying coffee.
2. Borrow instead of buying
  • Borrow from libraries instead of buying personal books and movies. This saves money, not to mention the ink and paper that goes into printing new books. Download from bit torrent. Go paperless and wireless.
3. Less petrol means more money
  • Shake those legs! Walk or bike to work. This saves on petrol, ERP and parking costs while improving your cardiovascular health and reducing your risk of obesity.
  • Consider telecommuting if you live far from your work. Or move closer. Even if this means paying more rent, it could save you money in the long term.
4. Make your own cleaning supplies
  • The big secret: you can make very effective, non-toxic cleaning products whenever you need them. All you need are a few simple ingredients like baking soda, vinegar, lemon, and soap.
  • Making your own cleaning products saves money, time, and packaging-not to mention your indoor air quality. It’s fun!
5. Eat smart
  • If you eat meat, add one meatless meal a week. Meat costs a lot at the store-and it’s even more expensive when you consider the related environmental and health costs.
  • Buy locally raised, humane, and organic meat, eggs, and dairy whenever you can. Purchasing from local farmers keeps money in the local economy.
6. Think before you buy
  • Go online to find new or gently used second-hand products. Discover vintage. Whether you’ve just moved or are looking to redecorate, consider a service like yahoo classifieds or ebay to track down furniture, appliances, and other items cheaply or for free. This is especially true for baby’s toys and accessories.
  • Check out garage sales, thrift stores, and consignment shops for clothing and other everyday items.
7. Save energy to save money
  • Use fans whenever possible; air conditioning units are huge energy eaters.
  • Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) when your older incandescent bulbs burn out.
  • Unplug appliances when you’re not using them. Or, use a “smart” power strip that senses when appliances are off and cuts “phantom” or “vampire” energy use.
  • Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible. As much as 85 percent of the energy used to machine-wash clothes goes to heating the water.
  • Use a drying rack or clothesline to save the energy otherwise used during machine drying.
8. Buy smart
  • Buy in bulk. Purchasing food from bulk bins can save money and packaging.
  • Wear clothes that don’t need to be dry-cleaned. This saves money and cuts down on toxic chemical use.
  • Invest in high-quality, long-lasting products. You might pay more now, but you’ll be happy when you don’t have to replace items as frequently.
9. Save water to save money
  • Take shorter showers to reduce water use. This will lower your water and heating bills too. Take cold showers whenever possible; avoid baths.
  • Install a low-flow showerhead. They don’t cost much, and the water and energy savings can quickly pay back your investment.
  • Avoid using a dishwasher; soap plates without using the tap and then rinse sparingly.
  • Wash your car as sparingly as possible; commercial carwashes have a tendency to waste large amounts of water though some do use recycled water.
10. Keep electronics out of the trash
  • Keep your cell phones, computers, and other electronics as long as possible.
  • Donate or recycle them responsibly when the time comes. E-waste contains mercury and other toxics and is a growing environmental problem.
  • Recycle your cell phone.
  • What items can and can’t be recycled; lobby to have a recycling bin in your area.

Smoke Detector Beeping

Smoke Detector Beeping
Is your smoke detector beeping without any signs of smoke? Well, read the following article and get to know more about the reasons and solution behind the problem of smoke detector beeping.
Smoke Detector Beeping
As its name suggests, a smoke detector is a device used to sense signs of smoke in a building and an important constituent of a home security system. It issues an audible and visual alarm in case it detects smoke, which is a probable indicator of fire. A smoke detector is typically housed in a circular plastic enclosure, which works by ionization or by optical detection. Most home smoke detectors are powered by a single disposable battery or a hard wire circuit. Many people complain about their smoke detector beeping without any apparent cause, which is really a bothersome thing. It is agreed that the smoke detectors are designed to beep or chirp in a loud volume for safety purposes; but this loud beeping actually becomes the greatest nuisance when they start beeping for no serious reason. More on smoke detectors and how they work.

Causes of Smoke Detector Beeping

Smoke Detector Beeping Cause #1
Why is my smoke detector beeping? This is a question that most people search an answer to because of the headache that it can be. Well, there are a few really insignificant reasons behind smoke detector beeping. If you hear beeping from a smoke detector without cause, make sure that it has got nothing to do with the smoke detector battery! Smoke detector beeping for no reason can simply be a sign of a worn out battery. Replace the battery with a 9 volt smoke detector battery as an effective measure to stop the smoke detector from beeping.

Smoke Detector Beeping Cause #2
If you notice the smoke detector beeping without having a problem with the batteries, then its underlying cause must be related to the alarm of the smoke detector. If you find the smoke detector beeping even after battery replacement, just press the test button on the smoke detector, in order to reset the alarm. It will clear the memory of the failing battery and resolve the problem of smoke detector beeping.

Smoke Detector Beeping Cause #3
Electric smoke detector beeping without any evident reason can be due to dust or insects that get trapped inside the smoke detector. If you find that the electric smoke detector is beeping, then it is the time to clean your smoke detector. Use a vacuum attachment; the one which is used for cleaning computer keyboards and clean your smoke sensor. Make it a point to clean the fire alarm system twice a year, to avoid any issues like beeping without reason.

Smoke Detector Beeping Cause #4
Another reason for electric smoke detector beeping, can be failure of the emergency battery backup, which happens in case of a power failure. If the battery backup of the electric smoke detector is zero, then it can start beeping for no reason. In such cases, make sure you replace the battery with an appropriate battery in order to solve the problem of electric smoke detector beeping.

Smoke Detector Beeping Causes #5
Many people complain about smoke detector beeping every 30 seconds, which is actually the sign of a healthy battery supply to the smoke detector device. In case you notice that the smoke detector is beeping at a particular time of the day or at regular intervals, then try to alter the temperature levels of your house. Sometimes, the smoke detector starts beeping in case it senses temperatures that are too hot or too cold.
